Utah State does not require an essay for general admission. A short personal statement is required for the Honors Program and for the General Scholarship Application.

USU offers guaranteed merit awards based on high school GPA — no extra application required. Larger awards (Presidential) require a separate scholarship application.
Guaranteed awards use recalculated core-course GPA; apply by Dec 1 for full consideration.
3.9+ GPA, essay, resume, interview
Apply for admission by Dec 1, then complete the separate Presidential Scholarship application in your USU applicant portal (essay + resume). Finalists are invited to Scholar's Day for an interview.
3.75+ GPA
Automatic — no application. Just submit your admissions application by Dec 1 with an official transcript.
3.5+ GPA
Automatic on admission — no separate application. Apply by Dec 1.
3.25+ GPA
Automatic on admission — no separate application. Apply by Dec 1.

No letters of recommendation required. Required materials: application, transcripts, and optional test scores.
Honors / scholarships: USU Honors Program: NO letters of recommendation required. Application uses a 1–2 page extracurricular resume, unofficial transcript with context paragraph, and two 250–300 word essays (Curiosity & Creativity + Courage & Connection). USU merit scholarships (Presidential, A-Pin, etc.) are automatic based on GPA/ACT — no letters needed.
