“BYU is a faith-based institution. Describe how your own faith and/or spirituality has influenced your choices.”
“Describe a time when you were a part of a community. How did you contribute to that community?”
“Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time.”
“Describe a time when you failed or learned from a mistake. How did you respond?”
BYU's tuition is already highly subsidized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On top of that, BYU offers merit scholarships based on academic performance.

1) High School Teacher Recommendation — a teacher from your junior or senior year who taught a class counting toward a math, English, science, or social science requirement. 2) Other Recommendation — anyone who knows you well and is NOT a relative (e.g., coach, employer, youth leader, mentor). 3) Seminary Recommendation — required for LDS applicants, from your most recent seminary teacher (not required for non-LDS applicants). Separately, ALL applicants must complete an Ecclesiastical Endorsement — from a bishop/branch president (LDS), a pastor or minister (other faiths), or the BYU Chaplain's Office (non-LDS with no faith community).
You provide each recommender's email in the application; BYU emails them a form to complete online. Only recommendations submitted through the BYU application form are accepted — outside letters will not be considered. Start early so recommenders have time to submit before the deadline.
Honors / scholarships: BYU's University Honors Program is applied to after enrollment — no additional letters. Academic scholarships are automatically considered through the main application; the same recommendations above are used.
